That's what I've long wondered. As a classically handsome black man,56,but said to look 15-20 years younger, one who's into Country music-in fact,I'm attempting to launch a Country singer/songwriter career at this EXTREMELY advanced age,as well as
being opined to resemble a handsome black cowboy
(I'm a muscular, beefy 5'9'',214 lb.,so think steer wrestler or "bull-dogger,"cowgirls!),who compounds the felony by not possessing an audibly "black"
voice(another black man said I sound like a "dumb
good ol' boy" and a "Southern Woody Allen")AND
HATING RAP and its thuggish,"keepin' it real" life-style,attire and attitude(plus preferring
buxom blondes-and black women if they're cowgirls
in garb,love of Country music,dancing,rodeo,hair,
eys, legs and of course,body)-I'm regarded the
quintessential "sellout" or "Uncle Tom" by the blacker-than-thou crowd.

Rachel,

Well that is one very lopsided view of things. As much power as the President may have, he does not control entertainment programming. And I would love to hear the list of "henchmen" you allege.

The Obama effect comes from advertising companies and Hollywood executives, not the Government. Unless you think that the White House approves everything you see on television.

But I will say this, if there are finally more Black actors on television AND they are not the stereotypical bad guy I can live with it. Because even with this surge as you seem to be describing, not even 10% of ALL television programming contains people of color - in front of and behind the camera. And that figure does not hit 10% even if you include all movies being made.

I'm glad to see more people of color. I'm just not glad for the means by which it has arrived.

Give me a break.

Obama has made it known by his henchmen that he wants more black shows, black themes, black actors and less black crime on broadcast, cable, satellite TV and in the movies.

Watch a lot of television, from Monk, to the Office to Curb your Enthusiasm, to all kinds of shows and you'll see the Barack "media control influence wherever you turn the channel clicker.

If one black is a bad guy, you'll see five that are good.

Every judge or lawyer or honest cop, where the choice can be white or black is black.

A President who nominates a blatant bigot for the Supreme Court, (Sotomayor) (hispanic women are intellectually to any white male), and who tells American people not to listen to Rush Limbaugh, isn't going to stop by not trying to influence television and the movies.

Take the lens you see the world with and give it a good cleaning.

Jill,

Actually in the time frame of the story it WOULD NOT be acceptable for Naveen to marry a Black woman. That is a warping of history.

Why is it important for kids to lean about slavery and segregation and the true history of this nation? Because like you stated, mistruths replace fact if fact is not known.

Given time the lies of the past become better known than the truth and suddenly the door is open for the past to repeat itself. It happens all the time. Such is human nature.

Plus racisim and discrimination are not isolated to classrooms and history books. That is a bit to naieve to think you believe. Again, if it's hidden from the youth it can be done to the youth.

Movies are not just movies, stories are not just stories. To trivialize this is to trivialize those that were lynched and killed and enslaved. Which might be great for Disney and it's marketing, but not for those like me.

Money is just not worth that kind of legacy.

Thank you for the comment Robert. But in general I would prefer that comments not devolve into discussions of religion and faith. That is a personal set of views that are not relevant to the topic in question.

I am african american and i saw the trailer, i am pretty offended, why the BLACK princess have to be with a white prince? this is certainly not what a lot of blacks want, then why the princess has european features (mouth, nose, etc), why not a real black woman(lips, hair etc)? why is it happening in N.O.(the 911 for blacks, Katrina)? What a poor choice, finally i want to remind that a frog is an animal living in half water, a pretty racist analogy to Katrina blacks living in half water for 1 week. with so much controversy i hope Disney cancels this movie

When I think of what these two people went through and was murdered it really makes me sick. We have laws to portect and punish and in this case they should be tried and if found guilty, sentenced to death. Our jails and prisons are already full of murderers and the tax payers are paying to keep them, feed them, provide medical and just about anything they want. If found guilty they should have an opportunity to appeal and when that is finished, then they should be put to death. The only way this country is going to be what it once was is to put God back into our schools and our government. There will come a time when all these people who are for abortion and gay rights and taking Christ and prayer out of everything will have to face God. You will be judged and if not saved, you will be judeged and cast into a lake of fire. It won't do any good to say I'm sorry or try to use any excuse, you will be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire forever with no hope of ever getting out. God is not mocked, you will pay.

I am so excited for this movie
skan100, I have to point out that Aurora and Cinderella are French. And don't forget, Snow White is German! Anyway, I agree with you on your wonderful points on Disney's cultural rainbow.

I think it doesn't matter what race (he's not black, he's Maldonian His voice actor is a [white] Brazilian) Prince Naveen is; the point of the story is that they fall in love -- might I add, when they're FROGS. Not black or white. They're green.

Charlotte wants to marry a prince, and Naveen is a prince. He's (as I mentioned) not technically black. So it would be culturally acceptable for her and him to be together (if the tables didn't turn in favor for Tiana ;D ).

Innocent little kids, the movie's main audience, don't understand the concept of segregation or racism, so why try to throw it at them now? Yes, it is very important to learn about in history class, but these are little kids. I can promise you, when I was little, I didn't acknowledge any difference between white kids, black kids, Asian kids, etc., except that boy likes to push over blocks and this girl will share crayons.

David,

You're hot/angry and well you should be. However, anger doesn't get it done. We have the laws in place that are capable of dealing with all such horrible crimes. What we don't have is proper recognition of crimes like this.

Think for a second, and answer this question. "What force in America elected our current President?" If you answered "MEDIA" you are correct, if not... I don't know where you live!!

Yes, our nation is in a mess and headed downhill at a frantic rate. The only thing that can derail the catastrophic head long plunge is to get the undivided attention of the American people. Do this and you will see the same patriotic fervor that brought about the original "tea party."

We are an information based people. That's what we've become, and that's OK! But, when the source of our information is biased, we are coerced to believe incorrect, insufficient and incomplete data.

If we choose wisely whom we allow to feed our intellect, we will vote properly and, consequently, our then elected officials would properly adjudicate the laws of the land, the desires of the majority, and America would once again belong to the people instead of the government. The US Constitution would once again be the banner under which we live and are governed. Then such crimes, as the one we are discussing, would be properly noted and prosecuted.

Our task obviously crosses major party lines and racial color lines and lies directly at the heart of the most basic instinct of true Americans... IN GOD WE TRUST!

Thanks for your comment David. Let me know what you think.

I RECEIVED THE POSTING OF THESE FIVE MONSTERS AND AM INFURIATED. ONE STEP A BIT DEEPER IS MY FRUSTRATION WITH THE "SYSTEM" THAT IS IN PLACE TO "PROTECT US". FAIR TRAIL MY BACKSIDE. IF THERE WERE HARSHER PENALTIES IN FORCE ONE MIGHT THINK TWICE BEFORE COMMITTING A CRIME. HERE'S MY SPIN ON IT. IF CRIME WERE REDUCED WHY WOULD WE NEED TO SPEND TAX DOLLARS ON COURT BUILDINGS, JAILS, LAVISH SALARIES, HIGH TECH EQUIPMENT ETC...NO, WHAT "WE" AS A SOCIETY DO IS GIVE THEM THREE HOTS AND A COT PLUS CABLE T.V. DRUGS, MEDICAL/DENTAL A BASKETBALL, GYM EQUIPMENT I MEAN C'MON ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. IF WE WENT BACK THE THE OLD WAYS (HANG THESE SONS OF BITCHES) WE WOULD SEE A DRAMATIC DECREASE IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. BUT THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THE CROOKED POLITICIANS TO MAKE AND HIDE (AND THEY ARE SO SELF ABSORBED AND SO DEEP INTO IT THEY HAVE NO CLUE.) IT'S TIME THE PEOPLE TAKE BACK THAT WITH WHICH WE FOUGHT FOR YEARS AGO INSTEAD OF LEAVING IT UP TO THE "POWERS TO BE". IN SUMMARY I WOULD SUGGEST WE ARE LIKE SHEEP LOOKING FOR A SHEPARD...WELL GUESS WHAT? THERE IS ONLY ONE AND HE IS NOT LIVING IN THE WHITE HOUSE OR COURT HOUSE OR DRIVING A SQUAD CAR OR PATROLLING THE JAIL. IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP PEOPLE AND TAKE BACK WHAT WE FOUGHT FOR (NO ONE ELSE IS GOING TO DO IT FOR YOU.) OR SIMPLY LAY THERE WHILE YOUR HOME IS TAKEN AWAY AND YOUR JOB IS TAKEN AWAY AND YOU HAVEN'T THE MEANS TO PROVIDE FOR YOURSELF OR YOUR FAMILY. THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET AND ALL OF US ARE PUTTING THE GAS IN THE VEHICLE....DUH!!! AND BY THE WAY WHEN IT COMES TO MATTERS SUCH AS THESE...I AM COLOR BLIND.

IF CRIME WERE REDUCED WHY WOULD WE NEED TO SPEND TAX DOLLARS ON COURT BUILDINGS, JAILS, LAVISH SALARIES, HIGH TECH EQUIPMENT ETC…NO, WHAT “WE” AS A SOCIETY DO IS GIVE THEM THREE HOTS AND A COT PLUS CABLE T.V. DRUGS, MEDICAL/DENTAL A BASKETBALL, GYM EQUIPMENT I MEAN C’MON ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. IF WE WENT BACK THE THE OLD WAYS (HANG THESE SONS OF BITCHES) WE WOULD SEE A DRAMATIC DECREASE IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. BUT THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THE CROOKED POLITICIANS TO MAKE AND HIDE (AND THEY ARE SO SELF ABSORBED AND SO DEEP INTO IT THEY HAVE NO CLUE.) IT’S TIME THE PEOPLE TAKE BACK THAT WITH WHICH WE FOUGHT FOR YEARS AGO INSTEAD OF LEAVING IT UP TO THE “POWERS TO BE”. IN SUMMARY I WOULD SUGGEST WE ARE LIKE SHEEP LOOKING FOR A SHEPARD…WELL GUESS WHAT? THERE IS ONLY ONE AND HE IS NOT LIVING IN THE WHITE HOUSE OR COURT HOUSE OR DRIVING A SQUAD CAR OR PATROLLING THE JAIL. IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP PEOPLE AND TAKE BACK WHAT WE FOUGHT FOR (NO ONE ELSE IS GOING TO DO IT FOR YOU.) OR SIMPLY LAY THERE WHILE YOUR HOME IS TAKEN AWAY AND YOUR JOB IS TAKEN AWAY AND YOU HAVEN’T THE MEANS TO PROVIDE FOR YOURSELF OR YOUR FAMILY. THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET AND ALL OF US ARE PUTTING THE GAS IN THE VEHICLE….DUH!!! AND BY THE WAY WHEN IT COMES TO MATTERS SUCH AS THESE…I AM COLOR BLIND.

I think Tom has a real valid point, expecially when pointing out the continued, underlying, feeling of inequality and acceptance. I also think, and have pointed this out often in my responses, that Black culture (generalizing) migrates towards the very negative stereotypes they do not want to be associated with, and then gets mad at anyone that points it out, to the point that the negative actions are now being excused as "a Black thing", and only a racist would have a problem with it - therefore every other culture is racist, and Blacks that do not like it are sell outs.
All of this was created by political correctness, forced by liberalsim, to appease the Black community with the overlying factor for any politician or business that being labeled as racist would bring you down. The liberal media and education system to this day makes White people feel guilty about slavery and tells Black people they are owed something for it.
Ultimately, all of the political talk, organizations and rah-rah events like Black history month or Black colleges or the Black Congress, and on and on and on were all created, fianced, and supported with tax payer money to appease political Blacks while all along the roots in the community are ignored because of lack of political clout.
As you Michael point out often enough, in the communities very little changes. The police tactics, the fatherless children, the drug and crime rates, the population arrested, the financial struggle...all because, when it all washes out, Blacks have to change their own community at the roots. Blaming White people is an automatic excuse for all failures, racism is as well. Everything given is appeasement, respect will only be earned when something is done to earn it, no matter what a fancy plaque says from a Mayor of some city.
In the meantime, Blacks still lead the nation (by percent of population) in almost every single negative catagory you can name - until this changes, nothing else will. All people of all races understand this at the core, no matter what the media trys to spin. I truly feel sorry for Blacks that are trying to break free of these bonds that have been placed upon them by their own community - this type of attention and talk on a much larger scale, in front of young people in the base Black communities would probably be very helpful.

Michael,

You are having trouble understanding this Black Conservative idealism because of what you've become. You have become a part of a black culture, that you weren't aware that existed, without even knowing it.

Sounds like I'm crazy... right! Maybe I am. Here's what I see. Tell me if you think I'm out in left field. I watched the clip and what one hears is not what one actually sees happening.

Black conservatives haven't bailed out, rather they have simply become a greater and louder voice for the cause of annihilating racism, as it exists today.

However, it seems that black culture, in it's basest form, has literally embraced the total dislike (maybe even hatred) of "Black Conservatism" as a rank and file portion of their culture.

Isn't it true that the foundation of racism is the feeling of inequality and non-acceptance? The inability of many to reverse the curses of family generations, causes them to urgently embrace the overwhelming offerings of the Obama administration. Having done so they remain, in their heart of hearts, unequal and without acceptability.

You meanwhile, and the many other Black Conservatives, have "split" ranks and have therefore, unawares, become a part of what their culture is. A very negative portion, but a portion never the less.

Micheal, you probably won't publish this! It really sounds terrible. Like I'm saying you've joined the elite and the white right. But that's not the intention at all.

Thanks for you concerted efforts.

Skan100,

You did make your point, and I thank you for that.

But i want to go back and clear up something I think has been lost. I never claimed that Disney was racist. Racially insensitive but not racist.

Also, the main point I was making was how this film ignores, denies, or re-writes historical fact such as to absolve America of the facts at the time. In effect it is a subtraction from the limited history that many Black Americans with families going back to the 1800's have.

Yes Disney has recently featured characters from non-European places. Which does not make up for the multiple decades of ignoring the existence of people of color. And the excuse of princess stories being all European is false. American culture just likes to focus on that area of the world, other cultures have their princesses and stories as well.

As for the Lion King, yes its about Africa. But its not about Africans. It's a positive story, and just happens to avoid displaying a single person of color on a continent of people of color. Again, that's relegating people of color to being invisible.

This film is insensitive, not racist. Disney is an opportunist, not racist. Though the rewriting of history to ignore facts and absolve the wrongs of the time could be seen as racist - but that is debatable.

Romanticization of the South is not something I agree with. Hiding from what was America is a problem. Taking advantage of people of color, while simultaneously avoiding us or acknowledging our contributions troubles me. Because let us not forget that Disney makes non-animated films as well. And like the rest of Hollywood, they too fall into the 93/7 percentage of diversity infront of an behind the camera.

Disney is improving. But I prefer honesty to platitudes.
